Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial efforts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two record labels signing the singer and then pulling her out before they released any songs. In 2007 however Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted some attention to its playful title track. "I Didn't Kiss a Girl was a more bold ode to sexism that was accompanied by the hard-edged rhythm of electro-pop. The song quickly stirred debate as critics denigrated its promotion of same-sex relationships and others charged that the graphic scene the song depicted sparked male fantasies of female sexuality. The combination of excitement, a polished tune and a catchy chorus helped it become a top-ten hit across multiple nations. It also helped Perry to sell more albums like One of the Boys (2007). The album's second track Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album the songs Perry composed herself, eventually saw an impressive three million copies in the United States.
